Manders quits BCB post
Posted: 2010-11-01

Former Bermuda captain Arnold Manders has stepped down as Director of Cricket Development at the Bermuda Cricket Board, effective October 31.
The BCB confirmed on Monday that Manders, who held the post since 2007, had submitted his resignation.
A statement from the board read: “In the past three years Mr. Manders has played a major role in the development of cricket in Bermuda. Mr. Manders started the popular Pee Wee “Have-a-Go” Cricket Programme, the U8 league and the Girls Development Programme and managed the BCB National Programmes. Mr. Manders has overseen the building of net facilities at Berkeley Institute and infrastructure improvements at all local clubs across the island including providing five new rollers. Mr. Manders was part of the management team who coached the U19 National Team when they qualified to play in the ICC U19 World Cup.”
Manders took over the position from Wendell Smith who occupied the post for just over a year from January 2006 to April 2007 when he stepped down and returned to teaching, having given up the post of principal at Paget Primary to take on the role.  Ironically, Manders, too, left teaching to take the post with the board and indications are he will also return to teaching.
Both Smith and Manders were leading captains during their playing days, establishing their clubs as two of the Island’s top clubs in the 1980s and 90s before turning to coaching.
