However, Budgies were quick to react and counter attack pushing the ball forward and working together well. Keishae Robinson was able to equalize in the 46th minute with a direct corner hit from a penalty corner. Both teams fought to the very end but were unable to break the 1-1 deadlock.

Bluebirds opened the scoring in the ninth minute from a great solo effort by Denise O’Donoghue who dribbled the ball into the circle and fired a camouflaged shot under the goalie’s pads and into the back of the net. Swifts came back with a vengeance and some great shots were saved by the Bluebirds goalie, Vicki Johnson, and defenders Kris Soares, Fiona Lloyd and Morag Gilliland. Just before half time, a short corner awarded to Swifts saw Bluebird, AnneMarie deGraft-Johnson clear an almost certain goal off the goal line after the shot had beaten ‘keeper Johnson. In the second half, Swifts continued the pressure and were eventually rewarded when in the 52nd minute centre forward, Ryanne Bardgett picked up the ball at the 23 metres mark and fired an unstoppable shot from the top of the circle. Both teams had additional goal scoring opportunities but the match ended 1-1.
